2017-2018 Brumley Fellows Selected to Work with ISP

The Robert Strauss Center recently announced the 2017-2018 cohort of Brumley Next Generation Graduate Fellows. Beginning this fall, ISP Director Steve Slick will mentor new Next Gen Fellow Casey Boyles. Senior Fellow Michael Gibbs will also be returning to continue studying with ISP and Director Slick.

Casey Boyles is entering the final year of her Master’s degree program in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies. Her research centers on authoritarian regimes, national security, and structural factors in intelligence. Upon completion of her Master’s, Casey aspires to be a Political Analyst, focusing on the Arab world.

Michael Gibbs is entering the third year of his PhD program in the Department of Government.  After receiving his AB from Princeton University in 2012, he worked for the Center for Strategic and International Studies and Washington Institute for Near East Policy in DC for a year before joining the Peace Corps.  Following the Peace Corps, he started his doctoral program here at UT.  Michael studies militias, civil-military relations in insurgencies, and evolving threats in civil wars.  Regionally, he is focused on the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa.
